An unnoticed danger is brewing over Cologne. The entire city is to be taken over, its inhabitants are to be rendered helpless and controlled by others. But what can we do about it?

Fortunately, there is an antidote. When the mysterious melody sounds, Cologne is protected. But that’s easier said than done…

This game is a remake of the “magical music machine” room in Kartäuserwall. The rooms are currently about 70% the same in terms of the puzzles.

If you have already played the music machine, it should have been at least two years ago.

And once again: this room is a new version of the magic music machine! The games are 70% identical.

Cologne is in danger!

A danger is brewing in Cologne’s underworld that threatens the heart of the city. It is hardly noticeable that among the many people on the streets, there are some who have very different plans for the city—sinister plans. A group of ruthless businesspeople are hatching a perfidious plan to take over the city. Their goal: to hypnotize the entire city so that the population becomes mindless and controlled by others. It’s about the free will of Cologne!

But there is a remedy: a mysterious melody! When played, it renders the population immune to such threats for a long time. However, this machine is very old and well hidden—it stands almost forgotten in a neat former dance hall in Cologne, owned by an energetic musician named Dieter Behrenkamp.

When Dieter hears the alarming rumor that his beloved hometown of Cologne is under threat, he knows that time is of the essence: the magical music machine must be activated, and the mysterious melody must defeat the evil forces!

But the device is old and complicated, and Dieter needs help. And he doesn’t want it to be just anyone. So he specifically looks for allies – people who love Cologne, who have courage and whom he can trust. Because this delicate matter must remain between insiders – the old instrument is too powerful and must not fall into the wrong hands.

Can you manage to save the entire city from disaster? Only you stand between the city and chaos!

Your mission:

Timing is half the battle: come to Dieter’s music room and wait for his instructions. Then you’re ready to go: find the old instrument, activate it, and start playing the mysterious melody!

Game concept

All of our escape rooms are designed with you, the players, in mind: after all, you come to us to have fun. Your task is to solve our numerous exciting puzzles. Since this room is a remake of an existing room, the gaming experience is particularly polished and promises great gameplay. And after all, the model, the magical music machine, is a TERPECA-nominated room—a remarkable and unusual achievement for such a puzzle-filled escape room.

Information for frequent players: Details about the escape room “The Mysterious Melody” in Cologne

If you’ve read this far, you obviously want to be well prepared. That’s why we’d like to give you some more relevant information and answer the questions that we also find interesting when we go gambling.

No actors: neither in the room nor at the reception. Come as you are!
Puzzles take center stage and drive the game and the story forward. The room has a lot of puzzles for the playing time and still has unusual puzzles even for experienced players. It is not completely linear and therefore optimized for large groups.
NOT playable for two players. Please do not present us with a fait accompli with just two persons. We want a well-functioning game to make you happy.
The game master decides whether to give a hint; hints are not requested. If you don’t want a hint, think carefully. Because: see point 3.
You are number one: you will rarely have to pause the game to listen to the story (audio). That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on great staging!
60 minutes is not fixed. It can also take longer (or shorter).

Game atmosphere

We at Spybrain have been on the market since 2017. So we’ve had plenty of time to observe players in the game and learn how to build a really well-rounded escape room. And this experience naturally also has an impact on our set design.

The “mysterious melody” is the Spybrain room with the most elaborate scenery to date. We have invested heavily in the look and technology, such as the lighting and sound technology, as well as the furniture and scenery, to make the experience feel even more real for you. And yet it should remain a game in which you can play along and touch everything.

We are therefore retaining our typical signature:
